Writing Assignment

1. Take your evidence sheet from yesterday and choose a topic. Use 6-8 pieces of evidence to support your argument.

2. Create a topic statement....what would you say overall about your topic if you only had one thing to say in general?

3. Build your arguments with a "quote sandwich". Take a piece of delicious evidence and sandwich it between your commentary before and after the piece....

for example, The Onondaga had a unique human presence that was different than all the other myths. The humans were created before the world was made. It stated that "Before this Earth existed, there was only water...the wife of the chief came close and leaned over to look down..."(17).  The earth was not in existence, yet the wife was in the clouds.

Notice that the evidence is in the middle, and the author's commentary surrounds the evidence.

4. Now write a transition statement to the next piece of evidence...

for example, The Onondaga had a unique human presence that was different than all the other myths. The humans were created before the world was made. It stated that "Before this Earth existed, there was only water...the wife of the chief came close and leaned over to look down..."(17).  The earth was not in existence, yet the wife was in the clouds.  This was a far different order than the Modoc's belief.

5. Write the rest of your paragraph using quote sandwiches and all your evidence.
